Welcome to all the new freshmen who have posted! Stef and I are working Keri's camp this week, scoping out some future Athenas. Its really fun although we can hardly walk despite only participating in like half of the activities haha. I can't believe the U.S. game today!! Crazzy. My seventh grade crush on Landon Donovan is officially rekindled. Miss you all!

Hey everyone!

I'm Izzy, soon to be a freshman at Scripps. I'm from Atlanta, Georgia and I play forward, and recently some defensive mid.

Sorry for not posting earlier- between Bonnaroo last week and the World Cup (go USA!) ever since, I hadn't really looked through my inbox in a while.

I've been working my way through the fitness packet as well, it's pretty rough (: We just got through with school season down here, but hopefully I'll get to play some with my club team over the summer.

I'm super excited for soccer season, Scripps and to meet all of you!

Hey guys!

Hi, I'm Sara Tweedy and I'll be a freshman at Mudd. My club team is getting ready for regionals so I'm trying to get in shape for that (since our club season is in the fall in Michigan). I've been really tired so I haven't been able to get myself to do anything other than play soccer, workout, and watch the world cup, and that's why I haven't posted yet.
It's nice being able to run with my team, but after regionals I'll probably have to start the packet. Hopefully I'll have a good start by then, though.
I can't wait to meet you all in August! And I can't wait for December in California. It's gonna be so beautiful compared to December in Michigan!

Hey Athenas!

I'm Gizelle, and I'm a senior (eek!) at CMC. I mainly play defense, but will make a sporadic appearance at outside mid. I'm a Biology major, and I'm hoping to get into any dental school that accepts me (also took the DAT aka Death After Torture (A is for Aptitude, Julia :) )- good luck on that by the way! I’m also looking forward to playing softball in the spring with Michaela!

I studied abroad in Ecuador and I loved it, so I decided to try Central America this time. I'm in Costa Rica for 8 weeks researching canopy gaps. Ok so here’s basic life: I run into an average 3 spider webs per day. I sleep with a mosquito net and marinate myself in eucalyptus oil and DEET. You have to keep everything you own in plastic bags or else it will not work/grow mold. You also have to be used to being sweaty. It's as if everything you do here is some estranged version of Bikram Yoga. Bikram standing, Bikram eating, and Bikram sleeping. It rains every day at around 2. I have to keep my headlamp with me at all times because the power shuts off whenever lightning strikes near the house- It’s happened twice! I eat beans, rice, and fruit everyday. The beach here is gorgeous and the water is so warm! I'm in a weird hut-house with 5 people, like a jungle version of the Real World.

When I am not hiking (the hike through the reserve is straight uphill 20 minutes speed walking/running) I have to do my workouts on the front porch. It’s like a 30 minute shuttle run. YES! And there’s no gym so I lift this 6 liter water jug we bought in town. On my days off, though, I head to the soccer field and play pickup or do SEBCO. I hope it’s enough though!

I’m so excited to meet all of you- counting the days to bring home another championship season!

Hi everybody!!

My name is Lauren, and I'm going to be a freshman at CMC! I'm from the Bay Area and am super excited to head to Southern California for college! My position is really anything defense--defensive mid/stopper or anywhere in the back. Sorry it's taken me so long to post a blog..I've had so many graduation events, and my family from the East Coast just came down to visit. I graduated this past Saturday, and now my summer has finally started!! This summer I'm working at a camp at my school, and I also have a job after the camp ends at the YMCA. Other then that, I'm just staying home and hanging out with friends!

I haven't exactly started the workout packet, but I have been working out myself at the gym--running 4-6 miles 6 days a week and doing weights. However, these past few days with graduation and family, I feel like all I've done is eat out and not exercise blahhh. Today I'm going to the gym, and in a few days I'll start the workout packet.

I can't wait to start the soccer season and meet everybody in August!!!

Hi everyone! My name is Amy. Looks like I'm a bit late on the uptake in terms of posting... Anyhow, I'm an incoming freshman at CMC from Albany, CA (it's right next to Berkeley).

I'm on my second week of the fitness packet. Fun stuff right there. But it's nice knowing that I'm not the only suffering... I actually have a question for everyone, related to the fitness packet. I'm going to be backpacking around Europe all of July, and I know from previous experiences that it's rather difficult to find hills (at least where I'm going) as well as tracks to run on. Gyms are even more difficult (for lifting). Any advice?

I hope everyone is having fun, even with the running, and I can't wait to meet you guys!
Hey Guys!

I'm Kirsten and I'm going to be a senior at Mudd. I am also your other captain for next season! I'm from Albuquerque, NM. Sorry for the late response but I've been in Hawaii (unfortunately on a different island than jules) all week on vacation with the fam. I'm currently in the Phoenix airport on a layover on my way home :( On Saturday I'm heading back to Claremont to do research on campus so Stef and anyone else in socal this summer we should workout together! It was very hard to motivate myself to do the first week of the fitness packet since I had a lot of beaching and vacationing to do :)

Anyways, I'm so excited to meet all of you incoming freshmen, and I'm glad you guys are already posting on this. Feel free to ask us questions and such and don't be shy. Can't wait to see you all in the fall and dominate SCIAC!! Love you Athenas,

Kirst
Nice to meet you all!
I’m Rosie, an incoming freshman from La Jolla, CA (going to CMC)
So it’s really nice to hear from the other freshman and of course feel the support from upper classmen! I still have three weeks before graduation… blahh but I’m getting to that running and lifting I promise...I am comforted by the fact that we are all in the same boat.
Megan: My aunt, uncle, and two cousins live in La Conner!! I love it there. It is soo beautiful in the summer and we always do family ski trips in Canada near there.
Michaela: Yesterday I decided to start my first day of workouts with the 6X400 to get it over with…definitely a mistake as it was extremely discouraging!! I should have just started with a slow slow jog or a nice half hour of juggling lol.
Fergie: First of all, awesome name, secondly, Oi! Como vai você! Onje fica un banero? Haha thats all I got…I traveled to brazil (actually Sao Paulo for part of it) with my club team a couple years ago..I can also count to twelve which came in handy for stretching. Beijos! Hehe
Also, I am a badass mid-fielder/stopper/defender XP
can"t wait to meet you all in a few months!

a post from a peruvian friend

freshies i'm so excited so many of you posted already, can't wait to meet you all in the fall! anywhoooo a certain somebody is having a little trouble getting on the blog, so she sent me something to post for her, here it goes:

hola chiqititas! aparentamente blogspot accepts me having my own blog, but wants me to reject athenassoccer for the summer. I think it and Cusco must be on the same page... you'll get that in a second... HI ALL, I'M PEENY! and no, freshman, I just decided you don't get to know my real name until preseason. and furthermore I'm so incredibly big and intimidating, that you'll probably have to ask a sophomore if you want to know because you'll be too scared of me to ask yourselves. Anyhow, I'm a senior this year, and I play outside mid. I'm an econ/gov major (are we even doing majors? who knows, I'm not even allowed to join this blog for some reason...so I'm breaking ALL the rules!), and am in Peru for the summer. I'm in Cusco doing research in informal moneylending for a pretty cool organization called Innovations for Poverty Action. I interview people, hang out with the gringos that I work with, and befriend some pretty cool baby llamas on the side. I'm suuuper pumped to be here for 10 weeks EXCEPT that Cusco (much like blogspot...as previously mentioned) wants me to reject athenassoccer for the summer. I'm 2 miles high right now, and went for a run about 3 days ago, and felt the repercussions (also known as altitude sickness) for the following 3 days. However, though Cusco and blogspot are working against me, I'm going to prevail! (Hahaha, what am I even saying?!...blame the altura). Well, ok, pretty much, I'll wrap up this novel (slow clap) by saying, yay i'm going to try super hard to get in shape up here this summer, and will be thinking of all of you girlies while doing it. I'm sups exited for season. Fuck Pomona (is it even worth it saying that anymore, they're gunna suck this year, aww well, somebody should)!

p.s. julia, stop whinning about your shoe size, at least you can wear women's shoes...ha
p.p.s. oh my blog is brittanysinperu.blogspot.com - i have to keep it for the summer b/c of my grant, it's kinda boring but i bet some of you have time to kill...
- Show quoted text -

(Laura again) so freshman i think you can probably guess the name by now, but everybody should actually check out the blog, its not even that boring and there are some priceless comments from her parents, hahaha. we should all add some more to make her feel cool/ help my campaign to get pictures of baby llamas up ASAP!

love you all, so does b, im sure everybody killed those fartleks and track work outs, wooo peace outttt
whatuppp

first off welcome to all the freshman- glad to see so many incoming Scrippsies!! I know most of all of this you won't remember anyhow buuutttt

my name is Annie, I'm about to be a sophomore at Scripps, I play center-mid and I'm from Oakland, CA. My summers been pretty chill. I'd say the most noteworthy thing that I've done is puked on my flight home in that little tiny cubicle bathroom on the plane soooo hollar at everyone that was at the apts the last night hahah. Oh, and also I'm playing in a game against the California Storm- aka Brandi Chastain, Sissy, Alex Morgan, etc etc tomorrow. Like w.t.f. So I'll let you know how that one goes! Anywho I miss you all and cannot WAIT for August to see everyone again.

♥ Annie

hello!

my name is julia and i'm a junior at CMC from honolulu, HI. this summer i'm interning at a company called oceanit, basically doing lab work and research. i also am planning on taking the DAT, the dental admissions test, in august, and will probably work a couple soccer camps.

anyway, i have yet to start conditioning in any form whatsoever. i have spent most of my time working on making my poor little knee better, which is plagued with patellar tendonitis, the current bane of my existence. so to all my teammates who are in fantastic shape right now, BLAH. i hate you, i'm jealous, thanks for making me feel bad, etc. haha alright well hope everyone's summers are going swell. i must leave, as i must get busy trying to get pregnant so that my feet can grow and i can fit mens cleats (thanks for the advice annie and laura).

P.S. WORLD CUP FRIDAY!!!! españa (((:
Hey!!!

So I am Michaela Ecklund and am going to be an incoming freshman this fall. My hometown is Montesano, WA and this last high school season I was a center-mid, but honestly I am willing to play any position on the field with the exception of goalie since I do not have any experience there. Not saying I wouldn't be willing to try though (= Anyways...this blog site was a GREAT idea! I am now on my second week of doing the fitness packet and actually love it! I've always been the type that wakes up early to get a workout in before school, have weightlifting as a class 6th period and then do another workout after school...sometimes two if I am in a sport. Sounds a little compulsive, but it's not...I just love the the feeling you get post-workout. A feeling that you've accomplished something and what is even better is the confidence boosting effect it provides. The only thing about the workouts that I don't do is the CATZ because some of the moves I have never done, but I get my share of lifting in to make up for this. Yesterday I did the track workout with 4 warmup laps, 6X400m run (hard) with recovery lap of jogging in between...those kicked my butt! then the 2 lap cool down...not to mention I jogged to the track and half walked half jogged back home. Lol! Luckily we got some Beautiful! weather and was well worth it. (=
Hi everyone :)

I'm glad you guys have this blog because I got a little nervous when I got my fitness packet the other day. I really appreciate the upperclassmen setting this up to help us all out. Anyway, I'm Megan Raymond, and live in La Conner, Washington (a tiny town about an hour north of Seattle). I play center mid (for high school) and defender (for my club team). I'm going to be attending Scripps in the fall. I'm so excited to get the chance to be in touch with you all, and can't wait to meet everyone!

If you want to know a little about me..:
I have a cat named Delius who has grown much too large and scares me everytime I walk by him, and the only reason anyone has heard about my town is because there is a tulip festival here every year :) Talk to you all soon!

Oh and one more thing! I have been trying to run outside, but Washington weather is a littttle different from California weather. Maybe I need to go on a treadmill in a sauna? ;)
So anyways ill be the first brave freshman to participate. I'm Nicole Fergie, but everyone just calls me Fergie, for obvious reasons (it got to a point where my coach forgot my first name haha). Well I currently live in Sao Paulo, Brazil and used to play soccer for my high school (cant believe i already graduated). I have no idea what the positions are in english except for goalie. However, I do know that I either play goalie or stopper (its what my team calls the position, but not sure what the actual name is). I'll be going to Scripps and I still haven't gotten the fitness packet (which is probably due to living in Brazil, things take foreeverrr to get here). I'll be spending most of my time in Miami so i'll try to motivate myself to do some outdoor running. It's great to meet all of you and this blog idea is pretty good I must say.

Hellllooo

I'm so glad we are using my wonderful suggestion! yay.

Anyways for the freshmen, I'm Madi. I'm from the Bay Area, I'm going to be a sophomore next year (no longer carrying balls or cones or the med kit yesss) I go to Scripps and I play forward. I am currently at home for the summer working at Pottery Barn Kids. It's surprisingly fun: basically overseeing the hordes of parents that want to over-indulge their children with unnecessary play sets and mini chairs. But I actually do enjoy it. The weather is amazing here. I've been running outside this summer, because last summer I ran in an air conditioned gym and was in for a shock when I got to school and all the running seem a million times harder (trust me try to run outside freshmen). I will be home for a while and then I'm going up to Canada and then to Sicily! I will update again later after my trips and such...and maybe even try to add a picture!

Miss you guys tons and can't wait to see you all back in August!

Madi
hello hellooo!
so for the newbies, I'm michele. I'm going to be a junior :( I don't want to be half way done with college. but anywayyy, I play center mid, sometimes outside mid. hmm, I'm from Arizona. It's already super hot here. It's gross. I've been taking an MCAT class which is basically the same thing as death. On the bright side I started doing yoga! It's so much fun and also much more difficult than i thought. I think we should take up team yoga. It would be super fun! hmm what else, everyone should see the movie killers with ashton kutcher and katherine heigl! Really really good. mkay that's all for now. hope you're all having grrrreat summers!

Welcome Freshmen!

Athenas! SCIAC Champs! Freshmen! Greetings!

I've missed you guys so much! I'm Stef and I am senior from Glendale, CA. I go to CMC and play fullback. At the moment, I am in the process of frantically attempting to secure a summer internship in media or marketing. I spent the last semester studying abroad in Greece and had a fantastic time. My fun fact was jumping onto a Carnivale parade float with a bunch of men dressed up as big bad wolves and smurfs. It was a lot of fun, except that I end up 2 miles away from town and had to walk back in the rain!

As for the fitness packet, I'll admit that I didn't get in as much fitness as I wanted to while I was abroad. Although I had access to the Olympic Stadium track, there were a few incidents. There were flashers who camped out along the track and I was harassed by a few dudes while running another time. Needless to say, I kept to power walking on the street in broad daylight. But to compensate I'm trying to run twice a day to make up for my lack of effort while abroad. I'm doing it for you guys!

But if any of you are in the LA area this summer and want to get together, I would love to set up a few matches, go for a run, or even hang out. I'd love to meet you freshmen and catch up with the returners!

HI EVERYBODY!!!!

herroooo to all

The blog's finally up!  We are experimenting with a new blog format (shoutout to Madi). to post, just click on the link in the top right corner next to your email address. if you have any questions about signing on/ posting just email me! And on this you can post pictures, comment on posts, and lots of other stuff too so go crazyyyyy! can't wait to hear about everybody's summer!

To the incoming freshman:

HI! My name is Laura Hagen, I'm a senior (weird) from Bellevue, WA. I go to CMC, play forward, and am a Captain along with Stef and Kirsten. this summer I'm chillin in Seattle and working for an education policy organization as well as coaching soccer on the side.

Basically the point of this blog is so everybody can keep up over the summer, complain about the fitness packet, suggest songs for the warm up mix, etc etc.  BUT another big reason is to give you guys a chance to talk to us and get a feel for the team before season starts, sooooo please introduce yourselves!  we really want to meet you and don't bite i swear...

if you don't know what to say, name, hometown, position, and which school you're going to (also a fun fact if you're really adventurous) is a good place to start!

xoxo
Laura
